I Have A Dream Today! (MLK)

I Have a Dream Today! (JRH)

My dream is about a city and all it’s made of – people, places, cultures, and ages.

I Dream about making Cedar City a successful Tourist Based Economy, not just a Festival City.  A place where there are events, lodging, plenty of restaurants, and tourist shops along Old Town Main Street.  A place where you can sit on the sidewalk and sip a latte or enjoy an ice cream cone. A place where the College Students are a part of the landscape, but not the featured centerpiece.

I Dream of having a unique and dynamic old downtown shopping core for the hundreds of visitors that come to town for festivals.  A place where you’ll find memorabilia for Shakespeare, sports, Brian Head, Parowan Gap, and Old Iron Town, and well as the Heritage Museum at the Homestead.

I Dream of having 300 members of the friend’s group @ the Homestead.  A group that includes the Historical Society and Iron Mission Families.  A group that helps by volunteering for the special events planned for 2021. A place for those that volunteer can enjoy the park as well as volunteer there.

I Dream we, as a community, honor our Mormon Village Heritage through the Iron Mission History and families.  That the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will join by placing an exhibit in the Museum and encourage membership and participation at the Homestead.

I Dream that “Art In The Park” will provide a place and time for the Heritage Artists and others will participate in our summer program and join the ranks of members.  These fine artists will be able to sell their works and demonstrate their “art” at the Homestead.

I Dream that the Sagebrush Fiber Artists will continue to spin, weave, and demonstrate during the summer for the hundreds of visitors that come to the Homestead each summer.  They are on Holiday until after the Pandemic.  They've explained spinning and weaving, the importance of Sheep to our local economy, and how rag rugs are made.  We need them to return.

I Dream of a strong “Friends’ Group” that joins in with the downtown business owners to promote Heritage Tourism for the benefit of all. Docents that interact each weekend with the visiting public (whether local or ot of town). Local families that join the friends and bring their families to the Museum every year to celebrate their heritage. And a new display of the Iron Mission families that founded the place we call Iron County.

I Have A Dream Today!  Come Dream it with me?

PS. I'm not LDS, just a citizen with a Dream.
