McDonalds – New and Gone Items

By Jana Hassett

McDonalds  –

 deletes items from their menu

Big Mac, Little Mac and the Double Big Mac were originally available at certain of their outlets, but they will not return, according to CEO Chris Kempczinski.  In addition, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches and Chicken Tenders will also vanish.  Never having been a huge seller, they have removed salads and to “further simplify their menu”, Yogurt parfaits are no longer available.

A few new additions will be a new pull-apart donut they promise to serve warm, and Canadian locations will get Maple Bacon Quarter Pounders.

And they are not alone in making changes to their menu.

Wendy's -

Has reformulated their french fries to retain heat and crispness for between 15 and 30 minutes to accommodate their growing drive-thru, carry-out, and other off-premise sales channels to match their motto "Fast Food - Done Right" for all 6,800 outlets.

Other Chains

Almost every chain restaurant is working on menu changes, service changes, building changes, and more,  Some are adding a second drive thru lane, others are adding walk-up windows. Many already have their own app for curbside pickup and/or delivery.  And some are adding their own delivery service.

Bottom Line?

  • Don't expect inside dining to return to some locations
  • If you are using their delivery service,  be sure to know who will bring it and how much it's going to cost.  Some will raise food prices and offer for free.  Know before you click send.
  • Some of the chains are working on "Ghost Kitchens" and your delivered food will come from those locations.
  • Don't shoot the messenger - being the staff person at the drive-up window, the wait staff, or delivery person.  A recent survey of restaurant workers that have quit and moved on or are staying home revealed "Disrespect from customers" as the number one reason they have left the industry.

Kindness Matters!

Until next time - - - -
